The Science of Light

Jyotiṣa — literally »Science of Light« — is one of the oldest astrological systems in the world. It originates from the Vedic tradition of India and has been used for over 5,000 years as a tool for self-knowledge and life navigation.

Unlike Western astrology, Jyotiṣa uses the sidereal zodiac, which is based on the actual positions of the stars — not the seasons. Planets are referenced to their precise positions in the sky, corrected by the so-called Ayanamsha (here: Lahiri standard).

What is the difference between Western and Vedic astrology?
Die westliche Astrologie verwendet den tropischen Tierkreis (basierend auf den Jahreszeiten). Jyotiṣa verwendet den siderischen Tierkreis, der auf der tatsächlichen Position der Sterne basiert. How precisely do I need to know my birth time?
The more precise the better. The ascendant (Lagna) and houses change roughly every two hours. If you don't know your birth time, we use 12:00 noon — the ascendant and houses will be imprecise, but planetary positions will be correct. A birth time accurate to 5–10 minutes is sufficient for a reliable interpretation.
What is Prashna — a horary chart?
In Jyotiṣa, the chart of the moment a question is asked is used (Prashna = Sanskrit for »question«). The horary chart illuminates concrete life situations — e.g. whether a project will succeed, whether a relationship is sincere, or what a difficult phase means. It is a standalone system, not a substitute for the birth chart.
